Severe Thunderstorms have already begun impacting the City of Houston this evening, and should continue throughout the night. The National Weather Service (NWS) has begun issuing sever weather products such as watches and warnings for our area.
A tornado watch has been issued for the entire area until 9pm.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for western portions of Houston until 4:30
Threats from this storm include strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, tornadoes and hail.
These storms have produced tornadic cells, and are very dangerous.
Protective Actions
Residents should begin taking precautions now to ensure that they remain out of harms way. This includes being prepared to shelter in place if a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for your area.
The safest place during a severe thunderstorm is in an interior room with no windows on the lowest floor possible.
Residents should tune radios to official Emergency Alert System stations (740 AM 88.7FM), follow official information and remain sheltered in their homes until the storm threat has passed.
